Joe Flanigan tweeted today a selfie made by Catherine Bell, with the message:

Shooting with the great Paul Sorvino and lovely Catherine Bell

Of course, no other hint to the new project, so we had to rely on the unparalleled detective skills of Lynne, who promptly identified the movie: The Bandit Hound (she’s great, isn’t she?). Mind you, it’s just a guess, not yet confirmed by Joe (or by imdb, or any other source, for that matter). However, we’re pretty sure Lynne was right, as Catherine Bell had tweeted the same picture, with the message:

1st day on set with these guys. Joe Flanigan. Paul sorvino # bandit hound

The movie seems to be a comedy directed by Michelle Danner, with a release date set for December 2014.

Frankly, Joe, it was about time! Have fun shooting and we keep the fingers crossed for a great movie.

Update 7 Sep 2014

Snippets from a con report following the DragonCon last weekend (the report’s author is Nancy Northcott):

Flanigan said he had just shot The Bandit Hound, a movie with Paul SorvinoCatherine Bell, and Lou Ferrigno. The movie is about a dog trained by criminals. It ends up in the dog pound, which Flanigan’s character runs, and is adopted by Bell’s character and her son. When the dog goes on a crime spree, Flanigan’s character helps them reeducate the dog.

Update: 31 October 2014

Info from the “coming soon” section of the official website:

COMING SOON

Expected December 25th 2014

A lovable dog named Bandit starts stealing cash to help his adopted family, he unwittingly sets them on a collision course with his dangerous ex-partner

Manny’s a canine-whispering bank robber with an odd partner in crime: his smart, eager, mixed-breed dog Bandit. A fake bomb and a note is all this furry thief needs to pull off heist after heist. But when the police catch up with Manny and his dim-witted heavy William, Bandit stalls the cops just long enough for his master to get away. Unfortunately that buys Bandit a one-way ticket tot he pound.

Months later, ten-year-old Owen and his mother Joanne decide to adopt a dog from the local rescue center. Joanne relocated them from the Midwest to the affluent beach community of Santa Monica, California after her husband’s recent death, and feels a dog will help Owen adjust to the tough changes. And Owen instantly falls in love with this scruffy, nameless pooch. But when Joanne loses her job, the adopted dog starts bringing home money. Lots of money. It’s Bandit, trying to do what he does best to make his new family happy.

Owen thinks he’s got the best dog ever, and that they were meant to be together. He starts using the cash Bandit brings home not only to help his mom, but to buy popularity in the neighborhood and win the heart of Susan, his adorable new friend from the other side of the tracks. But after a mysterious armored car robbery makes the news, Manny realizes Bandit is back in business. And he’ll do anything to see his four-footed goldmine returned, even if it means Owen and Joanne have to go.

Hilarious, heartwarming and with a dash of thrills, THE BANDIT HOUND is a touching family tale about the choices and sacrifice we make for the ones we love. THE BANDIT HOUND is a family movie that is for both kids and adults. It can take place in any quaint town in the U.S. a la Wysteria Lane. There will be several cameos for dogs. We auditioned over thirty dogs and found the perfect “Bandit” and his love interest “Lula”. “Bandit” has the just right mix of mischievousness and humanity and “Lula” is adorable. The adults are not the only ones to find love, so do the kids and dogs. The actors will create three dimensional characters that will lead to a colorful movie. It’s a family movie with a great story to tell and great acting demographic for everyone.

Update 3 January 2015

Well, the promised Christmas release didn’t happen :(
The information on the official website is still labeled “Expected December 25th 2014″, and no explanation has been outed so far. The imdb page of the movie changed the release date to “25 December 2015″ literally days before Christmas.
Of course we’re a bit disappointed, but there’s nothing else to do than wait for the next Christmas!

Update: 9 July 2015

A trailer was spotted by Serenity Sky and shared by @flaniganfan on twitter. Here’s the link to it.

Update: 17 Jan 2016

The director (Michelle Danner) announced the release for April 2016, and also posted a trailer. The imdb page of the movie confirms a spring release (5 April in USA), so it seems it’s finally going to happen!

It’s refreshing to be able to watch new footage with Joe and we couldn’t resist the temptation to screencap the trailer :P
