Joe Flanigan’s appearance at the Collectormania in Glasgow on August 21-22 had to be canceled since, as soon as ‘The Other Side‘ () shooting in Ireland was over on August 20, he had to fly to the Americas for starting production of the ‘Best Laid Plans‘ tentative pilot.
Open Book Casting posted the following information in the casting call:
.Casting call information about characters and storyline
BEST LAID PLANS[JORDAN] 16 (would prefer 18 to play 16), pretty, very smart, super-organized, very serious, Jordan is the eldest and only natural child of Tezzie and Richard, two Peace Corps workers stationed in Haiti, where they lose their lives in the earthquake. Along with her four younger, multi-cultural siblings, Jordan goes to the United States to be the ward(s) of Quinn and Samantha Patterson, her mom’s best friend. Jordan makes it clear that she doesn’t think much of Sam’s parenting skills, and is quick to take on the care and organization of the younger children. Aloof and a bit haughty in school, where she is appalled at the materialism she sees around her, Jordan rejects the advances of Ethan, a nice kid, and efficiently busies herself with “save the world” activities. Jordan initially holds herself at a distance from Sam and Quinn, but when she sees their willingness to support and sacrifice for her and her siblings, she gradually comes to accept them as the right choice for their new parents… LEAD [PETER] 16 (would prefer 18 to play 16), lanky, good looking, Romanian by birth, smart but not a student, charming, funny, appealing and enterprising, Peter is one of the multi-cultural children of Richard and Tezzie, whose deaths in the Haiti earthquake force Peter and his siblings to live with Quinn and Sam Patterson in the U.S. Incredibly adaptable and resilient, something of a clown, Peter is thrilled with his new life and quickly becomes popular, unlike his sister Jordan, whom he urges to lighten up and have some fun. Peter gets into a few scrapes in his new life, the first when he sets up a Final Four basketball pool in school, and later when he sells his clothes on Craigslist to a total stranger in order to pay his way with Quinn and Sam… LEAD [DAVID] 11 years old, a quiet and somber Haitian boy with deep, soulful eyes, David was a domestic slave in Haiti — sold into household service to a Haitian family — who’s adopted by Tezzie and Richard. Unaccustomed to being touched or treated with love or respect, a courageous young man who had to teach himself to read in secret, David is just starting to settle in when Tezzie and Richard are killed in the Haiti earthquake, and he and his four multi-cultural siblings are sent to live with Sam and Quinn Patterson in the U.S. Slow to adapt, a boy who keeps things to himself, David is brought out of his shell somewhat by Sam, who tries to help him with his Fine Arts project by bringing him to meet her band and then going to one of her gigs, bringing him home at 1:00 am on a school night. David enjoys being accepted by her band, and thinks maybe he might learn how to pay the drums — and get a tattoo… LEAD [SUN LEE] 5, Chinese, vivacious, adorable, Sun Lee is one of the children adopted by Tezzie and Richard, who are killed in the Haiti earthquake. An adaptable, charming little girl, Sun Lee is enchanted with her new U.S. home, and quickly decides that she’s a princess in her new backyard. An undauntable little girl who quickly comes to adore Quinn (and vice versa), Sun Lee astonishes Quinn by bravely and cleverly standing up to some kids in her class who were teasing another kid, and are just about to turn on her… LEAD

MAJOR QUINN PATTERSON was played by Joe Flanigan and his wife SAM by Brooke White (, ), an American indie pop/folk-pop singer-songwriter. Excerpt from her blog post about shooting this movie of 20 September 2010:
And then there’s my TV family… or the family I have on TV. I have a TV husband, in real life his name is Joe Flanigan, he was a sci-fi star on Stargate Atlantis… he has his own action figure. He is quite the character, and has given me some of the best acting advice… “just listen”. Good advice for real life too. And without giving too much away I have some other amazing and adorable co-stars, these kids are super cuties and talented… oh and they are teaching me.
.Joe Flanigan tweets about this pilot
[...] I have good news/bad news. First bad news, can’t go to Glasgow. Good news; because I’ve got a new project

Apparently, the pilot name seems to be changed to ‘Change of Plans’ also according to the following.
